The new autumn round for the coronavirus vaccine has started on Tuesday 25 August. People who run an increased risk of becoming seriously ill with coronavirus can make an appointment from today at the GGD. The vaccinations will be given from 21 September at 353 GGD vaccination locations spread across the Netherlands.
People aged 70 and over will receive an invitation letter from the RIVM between 25 August and 15 October. Those who had a coronavirus vaccine at the GGD last year and gave permission to share their data will receive a proposal for an appointment at the same time. Other people aged 70 and over can make an appointment themselves.
People under 70 years old can also be eligible for the coronavirus vaccine if they have a disease or condition that increases their risk of becoming seriously ill. They will not receive an invitation letter, but can make an appointment themselves. Via the RIVM's coronavirus vaccine check, they can find out if vaccination is recommended for them.
Who is the vaccine intended for?
The coronavirus vaccine is recommended this autumn for:
- people aged 70 and over;
- people aged 50 to 69 with certain diseases or conditions;
- adults and children who belong to a medical high-risk group, for example people with a severe immunodeficiency;
- healthcare workers who have direct contact with vulnerable patients.
Vaccination may also be possible outside these groups. This applies, for example, to people with a vulnerable family member or people who want a coronavirus vaccine on the advice of their treating doctor.
Healthy people under 70 years old
The coronavirus vaccine is not standard recommended this year for healthy people under 70 years old. Hospital admissions due to coronavirus in healthy people under 70 years old are still rare, according to the RIVM. Therefore, the age limit for healthy people has been raised from 60 to 70 years.
Residents of care institutions will receive the vaccine in their own institution. They will receive information about this via the care institution.
People who due to a severe illness, condition or limitation cannot themselves or with help go to a GGD location can in exceptional cases receive the coronavirus vaccine at home. From 25 August, contact can be made with the GGD via 0800-7070 for this.

An appointment can be made, changed or cancelled until and including 27 November 2026 via Planjeprik.nl or by phone via 0800-7070.
The coronavirus vaccine reduces the risk of severe illness, hospital admission and death from coronavirus. The RIVM also emphasizes that it remains important to follow the general advice against respiratory infections, especially for people who are vulnerable.
