Growing Healthier Together: raising awareness on child and youth mental health in Greece
Across the WHO European Region, increasing numbers of children and adolescents are experiencing mental health challenges. Recent data show that: - mental health conditions among 0–19-year-olds have increased by one third in the past 15 years; - one in 10 adolescents reports being bullied; and - one in 4 girls aged 15–19 lives with a mental health condition. Overall, around 1 in 7 children and adolescents in the Region lives with a mental health condition.
Mental health is an essential part of overall health and well-being, influencing young people's ability to learn, develop and participate fully in their communities. Strengthening the quality of mental health services and promoting mental health are key priorities under the Second European Programme of Work 2026–2030. Raising awareness, reducing stigma and supporting families and communities are essential to improving mental health and well-being for all children and adolescents. Growing Healthier Together contributes to this effort.
The 2026 edition will focus on integrating mental health into primary health care and strengthening community-based support. Awareness-raising materials and information on available mental health services and support in Greece will also be provided.
