A massive data breach in Poland affected nearly 19 million people

Poland's Minister of Digital Affairs reported a data breach in the MyDr healthcare system that affected nearly 19 million people. More than 2 terabytes of information were stolen, and the investigation is ongoing.

A massive data leak in the Polish MyDr system, used by doctors and medical institutions, may have affected nearly 19 million people, Poland's Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski said on August 12.

According to the minister, the system contained confidential medical data, including information about prescriptions, scheduled appointments, prescribed medications, and documents that patients presented to doctors.

He clarified that the company had confirmed the theft of 19 million records containing various fragments of information that may be linked to one another. More than 2 terabytes of data stolen

According to Gawkowski, the volume of the stolen database exceeds 2 terabytes. At the same time, Polish authorities currently have no indications that the incident resulted from an external attack.

He added that the cause could have been human error, a system failure, sabotage, or the company's negligence. Following the leak, doctors who used MyDr began being notified. About 12,000 medical facilities are involved. At the same time, they continue to operate as usual. The investigation is being conducted by the Central Cybercrime Bureau.
