Morocco has expanded access to primary healthcare services for more than 375,000 people with the commissioning of 15 healthcare facilities across six regions, as part of the country's ongoing efforts to modernize its national health system. The facilities have been rehabilitated, equipped, and placed into service across Casablanca-Settat, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Beni Mellal-Khenifra, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, and Marrakech-Safi. The latest rollout forms part of the national program aimed at upgrading 1,600 primary healthcare facilities across Morocco, with 500 targeted for completion by 2026. The program is being implemented alongside the broader reform of the national healthcare system and Morocco's efforts to expand social protection, with a focus on improving the availability and quality of basic medical services.

In Beni Mellal-Khenifra, four facilities have been established within the healthcare network. Three are located in the province of Azilal; the Guimmi, Bouhrazen, and Ait Ouirar rural dispensaries, while the Sidi Bouaabad dispensary has been commissioned in Khenifra. Chichaoua province, meanwhile, has received five facilities, including the Imintanoute second-level urban health center, the Douirane second-level rural health center, and the Mzouda first-level rural health center. The Bouzouga and Laadilate rural dispensaries have also begun providing services.

The Eastern region has gained three additional facilities. In Jerada province, authorities commissioned the first-level rural health center and rural dispensary. In Berkane, the Al Qods first-level urban health center has entered service. Elsewhere, the Dar Bouazza first-level urban health center has been commissioned in Nouaceur province in the Casablanca-Settat region, while the Bni Gmil Maksouline second-level rural health center has opened in Al Hoceima province.

Guelmim-Oued Noun has also benefited from the expansion, with the commissioning of a specialized diagnostic center for tuberculosis and respiratory diseases in Guelmim province. The center is designed to strengthen screening and early diagnosis, as well as the treatment and follow-up of patients suffering from tuberculosis and respiratory illnesses. It will also contribute to improving diagnostic capacity and continuity of care at the provincial level.

The newly commissioned facilities are intended to provide a broad range of primary healthcare services, allowing residents to receive routine medical and nursing care closer to their communities. Services will include general consultations, monitoring of chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, and care related to respiratory diseases. The facilities will also support maternal and child health monitoring, school health programs, health awareness and education, epidemiological surveillance, and mobile healthcare services.

Morocco Expands Primary Healthcare Network With 15 New Facilities

Health authorities say they have mobilized 50 healthcare professionals to operate at the newly commissioned facilities and provide medical and nursing services to local populations. The commissioning of the 15 facilities follows the implementation of King Mohammed VI instructions concerning the reform and upgrading of Morocco's healthcare system and the expansion of access to healthcare services.
